The Republic Day Camp (RDC) is a prestigious national camp conducted annually by the Directorate General of the National Cadet Corps (DG NCC). It is an essential part of the NCC, where selected cadets participate in various competitions, events, and parades, representing their directorates on a national platform. The selection process for this camp is highly competitive and structured, filtering the best candidates from schools and colleges across India.

So, recently NCC ARMY WING conducted a #camptalks episode with SUO Tilak Ghosh, he was the All India Best Cadet in the Senior Division (SD) Army Wing category of 2024. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the selection procedure for the RDC Camp:

1. Initial Selection at the College Level

  • The selection process begins at the college level, where cadets express their interest in participating in RDC by enrolling in specific events.
  • Various events are available, such as Guard of Honour, PM Rally, Cultural Events, and Best Cadet Competition. These categories further break down into sub-events like Flag Area Competition, Line Area Competitions, and Innovation Competitions.
  • Cadets must perform well in their chosen events to progress to the next stage.

2. Battalion-Level Competitions

  • After college-level selections, successful candidates move on to the battalion level.
  • Multiple colleges are there under a battalion, and here, cadets from different colleges compete against each other. For example, if six colleges form a unit within a battalion, candidates compete in the chosen events to represent their battalion.
  • Only the top performers in each event proceed to the next level.

3. Inter-Battalion Competition (IBC)

  • Cadets selected from battalion-level competitions advance to the Inter-Battalion Competition.
  • Within a group of directorates, several battalions compete. A selected team is then formed to represent each group.
  • This stage further narrows down the candidates to the best from each battalion, preparing them for the next stage.

4. Pre-IGC and Group-Level Competitions

  • Following the inter-battalion stage, selected candidates enter the Pre-Inter Group Competition (Pre-IGC).
  • In Pre-IGC, candidates are “fine-tuned” by testing their skills further, ensuring they are the best fit for their groups.
  • This stage includes additional training camps for each selected candidate, aimed at refining and preparing them for the IGC.

5. Inter Group Competition (IGC)

  • The IGC is a crucial phase where groups within a directorate compete.
  • Each directorate may have several groups (e.g., six groups in one directorate), and cadets compete in various events, representing their groups.
  • A select team from each group is chosen based on their performance to represent their directorate at the national level in Delhi.

6. Pre-RDC Camps and Final Training

  • Selected candidates from the IGC stage are invited to attend Pre-RDC Camps. These camps usually span over a period of one to two months, where each camp lasts approximately 10-12 days.
  • In these camps, cadets undergo intensive training to prepare them for the final competitions and events at RDC. Here, cadets are further shortlisted, ensuring that only the most capable and skilled cadets participate in RDC.

7. Final Selection and RDC Camp

  • After Pre-RDC, the final selection is made. The selected cadets are then prepared to represent their directorate at the RDC Camp in Delhi.
  • At RDC, cadets participate in individual and team events, competing against the best from other directorates. The competitions follow a rigorous schedule, culminating in the PM Rally on January 28th, which is the highlight of RDC.

8. Results and Recognition

  • The final results of the competitions are announced on January 28th, just before the PM Rally.
  • Directorates are ranked based on their performance, with the top-performing directorates receiving awards and prizes.

By participating in various levels of competition and training, selected cadets develop leadership skills and gain a sense of accomplishment as they represent their directorates on the national stage.
