Witnessing a historic moment on the 75th Republic Day, the National Cadet Corps (NCC) proudly introduced its first-ever all-girl contingent and band, marking a significant stride towards inclusivity and empowerment.
Led by Senior Under Officer Punnya Ponnamma from the Kar and Goa Directorate, the all-girl contingent, comprising 148 cadets from various regions, showcased the dedication and diversity within the NCC. This groundbreaking initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to fostering equality and providing opportunities for young women in its ranks.
NCC, with nearly 17 lakh cadets on its roll, stands as one of the largest youth uniformed organizations globally. The introduction of the all-girl contingent and band adds a remarkable chapter to its legacy, emphasizing the NCC’s role as a trailblazer in youth development.
The NCC band, featuring talents from NCC Girls Birla Balika Vidya Peeth, Pilani, Rajasthan, and NCC girls from the northeastern region, took center stage under the leadership of senior under officers Yashasvica Gaur and Ankita Sharma. Their rendition of ‘Sare Jahan Se Acha’ resonated with pride and unity, encapsulating the spirit of the occasion.
The all-girl band paved the way for a second NCC girl marching contingent, consisting of 148 cadets led by Senior Under Officer Tanu Tevatia from the UP Directorate. This successive display reinforced the commitment to gender inclusivity and showcased the capabilities and leadership qualities of young women within the NCC.
This groundbreaking participation not only adds a new dimension to the Republic Day Parade but also serves as an inspiration for young women across the nation. It signifies a bold step towards breaking gender barriers and fostering an environment where every cadet, regardless of gender, can thrive and contribute to the nation’s spirit.
As the Republic Day Parade 2024 unfolds, the NCC’s inaugural all-girl outing will be remembered as a momentous occasion, celebrating unity, diversity, and the remarkable achievements of these inspiring young women.
